Local Partners
Local partnerships create lasting solutions
Our in-country partners are the key to our work. They are financial institutions operating in the communities we serve. They understand the unique challenges and opportunities in their communities, helping to bring access to small, affordable loans for safe water and sanitation to people living in poverty through our WaterCredit solution.
Thanks to their real-time problem solving and long-term understanding of local market needs, our partners help us reach more people, faster.
Expanding access to water through our financial partners
Many financial institutions in developing countries aren't offering loans for water and sanitation to people in need. Water.org brings resources and consulting expertise to these organizations, equipping them to successfully add water and sanitation loans to their portfolios of offerings.
Partners who implement our solutions are a crucial connection to the people we empower. They are true collaborators working to change lives with safe water and sanitation.
More than 143 partners around the world have joined our effort and share our vision to end the global water crisis, bringing expertise, market insights, passion and results.
Together with these partners, we've helped mobilize $5.5 billion in capital to support small loans that bring access to safe water and sanitation to millions of people in need.
Pictured, Nanda of SIDUR in India discusses the benefits of financing for water and sanitation access.
Our partners help scale our impact
Our partners in the countries where we work are making loans for safe water and sanitation possible for people in need in their own communities.
Our partners have disbursed 14.6 million loans for $5.5 billion, reaching more than 66 million people in need of safe water or sanitation.
Expanding access to safe water and sanitation in India
Together with our partners at SIDUR in India, Water.org made small, affordable loans possible for families in Hyderabad. "With water and sanitation, there are so many things... health is there, education is there... children can go to school," says Nanda of SIDUR.
Watch as Nanda of SIDUR explains how Water.org introduced the idea of lending for water and sanitation to her Indian-based organization, and how the solution is now empowering people including Renuka with more than taps and toilets.
Partnering in Peru to lend for change
MiBanco is one of the largest microfinance institutions in Peru that is now offering water and sanitation loans across their entire branch network. We provided extensive technical assistance to design and develop a water and sanitation loan program.
To date, MiBanco has disbursed more than 892,000 loans, reaching more than 3.3 million people with much needed access to water and sanitation.
Supporting banks in Africa to lend for water and sanitation solutions
In addition to microfinance institutions, Water.org works closely with commercial banks. In Africa, we work with banks like PostBank Uganda, Family Bank in Kenya, and Equity Bank in Tanzania. Through these partnerships, Water.org supports the banks to lend for water and sanitation at multiple levels – to households, to small and medium enterprises, and to water utilities.
Featured in this video is the testimony of Augustine from PostBank Uganda. Watch as he describes the benefits of lending for water and sanitation to people in need in Uganda.

The power of partnership
We provide our partners with technical assistance, connections, and small grants, where needed, so they can provide small, affordable loans to people in need of water and sanitation solutions.
We understand that working with Water.org is a reflection of your organization's values and commitment to making a difference in your community. Our team will work with you to create a program that supports the goals of your business.
Our partners
Our local financial institution partners are changing the lives of people in need in their own communities by providing affordable financing for safe water and sanitation solutions. We also work with water service provider partners to help expand their coverage and deliver quality water services to people in need.
